BSCS Eligibility Criteria in Pakistan 2026: Marks, Streams and Test Requirements

BSCS eligibility criteria in Pakistan: minimum marks, accepted streams, Pre Medical and A Level rules, entry tests and documents, by university.

BSCS Eligibility Criteria in Pakistan 2026: Marks, Streams and Test Requirements

To apply for BS Computer Science (BSCS) in Pakistan you need 12 years of schooling, usually an intermediate qualification such as FSc Pre-Engineering or ICS with mathematics. Most universities set the minimum at 50% marks, and some set it higher. Most also require an entry test, so meeting the minimum only gets you to the test.

Eligibility changes between universities more than most students expect. Two students with the same marks can qualify at one campus and not another, because the accepted subjects differ. Use the table below to check yourself, then confirm the details in the university’s current notice.

Minimum Marks and How Merit Differs

The floor is 50% in intermediate at most public and mid-tier private universities. Competitive universities set it higher. PIEAS, for example, asks for at least 60% in both Matric and Intermediate.

Meeting the minimum does not secure a seat. Your final position depends on a merit formula that blends your marks with your test score. FAST’s published formula weights the admission test at 50%, intermediate at 40% and matric at 10%.

FAST-NUCES

FAST publishes separate minimum marks for matric and intermediate, so read its official table rather than relying on a single percentage. Pre-Engineering and ICS are the accepted routes. FAST accepts more than its own test for some programs, so check which options apply this year. Current deadlines for specific campuses are on the FAST Islamabad and FAST Lahore admission pages. The official criteria are on the FAST eligibility page.

NUST

NUST’s published criteria ask for at least 60% in both Matric and FSc (or equivalent), with Physics and Mathematics for BS Computer Science. A-Level and other non-FSc candidates need an IBCC equivalence certificate. Details are on NUST’s undergraduate admissions page.

COMSATS

COMSATS requires a valid NTS NAT score for undergraduate admission. Which NAT you take depends on your background: NAT-IE for Pre-Engineering, NAT-ICS for ICS and NAT-IM for Pre-Medical. If you take several attempts, the highest score counts. Register through the COMSATS admissions portal.

Other Universities

NUTECH, Riphah and NUML each publish their own combinations, minimums and tests, so use the table as a starting point and read each notice. For a wider view of deadlines, see the BSCS admissions page.

Can Pre-Medical Students Do BSCS?

At several universities, yes. COMSATS, for example, accepts medical students for BS CS and requires them to pass math deficiency courses of 6 credit hours within the first year. Other universities that accept Pre-Medical, such as Riphah and NUTECH, apply similar conditions. FAST and NUST name Pre-Engineering or ICS as the entry route, so a Pre-Medical student without mathematics should shortlist other universities and read each advertisement for how it handles the deficiency.

DAE, A-Levels and Students Awaiting Results

DAE holders. Some universities accept a Diploma of Associate Engineer. NUML, for example, asks for at least 60% aggregate in a relevant discipline.

A-Level and O-Level students. The Inter Board Committee of Chairmen (IBCC) must certify that your qualification matches the required intermediate group. Apply early, because some universities ask for it at application.

Result pending. Some universities accept applications on Part-I marks and grant provisional admission against a hope certificate. Check each notice.

Entry Tests and Merit

Most universities use a test as the main filter:

  • FAST: its own NU test, with other options for some programs

  • NUST: the NET

  • COMSATS: NTS NAT (NAT-IE, NAT-ICS or NAT-IM)

  • NUTECH: the NUET

Test weight varies. A strong test score can offset modest intermediate marks at some universities and not at others. Use the BSCS merit lists page for past results and the BSCS universities list to compare options.

Documents Usually Required

  • Matric and intermediate result cards

  • CNIC or B-Form

  • Passport-size photographs

  • Test result or score card

  • IBCC equivalence certificate, where it applies

  • Domicile, if the university uses quotas

How to Check Your Eligibility

  1. List your HSSC subjects and check that mathematics is among them.

  2. Compare your matric and intermediate percentages with the 50% and 60% thresholds.

  3. Match your stream to universities that accept it. Pre-Medical students should shortlist those that offer deficiency courses.

  4. Read the current admission advertisement, since one session’s rules are not guaranteed for the next.

  5. Check costs on the BSCS fee page.

If you are also considering the software engineering degree, see the BS Software Engineering eligibility page. New to the degree? Read what BSCS is and what it covers.
