LLB Colleges and Universities in Pakistan 2026

Browse LLB colleges and universities in Pakistan 2026: government and private options, top law colleges in Lahore, LAT rules, PBC recognition checks and fee links.

The LLB you need is the five-year degree. Admissions to the old three-year LLB were banned after 31 December 2018. To enter, you need a pass in the Law Admission Test (LAT), and your institution must be recognized by the Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) and the HEC. The sections below help you check recognition, compare public and private options and shortlist by city. For the full database, use the list of LLB universities on this page.

Check Recognition Before You Shortlist

A law degree only helps you if it qualifies you to enroll as an advocate. The PBC publishes a list of universities and colleges competent to run LLB programmes, and warns students not to seek admission at unrecognized institutions.

Before you apply:

  • Confirm that the university or college appears on the PBC’s recognition list.

  • If a college is affiliated with a university, check that both the university and the college are covered.
  • Check whether the PBC has placed any restriction on the institution. In late 2024, for example, the PBC’s committee told Punjab University to stop admitting LLB students until a registration dispute was resolved. Always confirm the current status.

Affiliation rules are tightening. A report on the PBC’s amended Rule 20 says no new law-college affiliations are allowed for three years from 15 January 2026. Treat this as a reason to be wary of newly advertised law colleges, and confirm the details with the PBC.

List of LLB Colleges and Universities in Pakistan

Pakistan’s law institutions fall into two groups. Universities award the degree directly, and affiliated colleges teach it under a university’s name. The table shows a selection of institutions from public listings. It is not exhaustive and not a ranking.

Public listings show GCU, UMT, Superior and Minhaj offering five-year LLB programmes in Lahore. Islamabad listings include Bahria, IIUI, NUST and Quaid-i-Azam University. SZABUL describes itself as the first law university of Pakistan, offering the five-year LLB.

Government Law Universities in Pakistan

Government institutions usually charge lower fees but expect higher merit. Well-known names include the University of the Punjab, Quaid-i-Azam University, International Islamic University, the University of Karachi, SZABUL and GCU Lahore. Intake and fees change every session, so check each institution’s current prospectus. For fee comparison, use the LLB fee structure page.

Private Universities and Colleges

Private options suit students who pass the LAT but miss public merit lines. Fees run higher, and some institutions add their own entry test. Some private colleges are affiliated with public universities, so check both the college and its parent university for PBC recognition.

Top Law Colleges in Lahore

There is no official ranking of Lahore’s law colleges. Reputation, fees and merit lines are the practical filters. Public prestige centres on University Law College (Punjab University) and GCU. LUMS sits at the premium private end. UMT, University of Lahore, Superior and Minhaj are degree-awarding private universities. Established affiliated colleges include Pakistan College of Law and Quaid-e-Azam Law College, both of which appear on a Punjab University affiliation list. Verify each college’s current affiliation and PBC status before you apply. The LLB universities in Lahore page lists more institutions with fee information. Multan applicants can use the LLB universities in Multan page.

LAT: Dates, Pattern and Passing Marks

The LAT is mandatory for the five-year LLB at HEC- or PBC-recognized institutions, carries 100 marks and has a 50-mark pass requirement. It tests English, general knowledge, Islamic studies, Pakistan studies, Urdu and mathematics, plus an essay and a personal statement. Students with a completed HSSC or equivalent, or those awaiting results, can apply.

The next sitting is time-sensitive. HEC’s registration for the 2026 LAT is reported open until 20 October 2026, with the test tentatively on 15 November. The published calendar lists 24 December for that sitting’s results. Always confirm dates on the HEC ETC portal before you register. For the sitting calendar, see the LAT test schedule.

Eligibility and Merit

You need 12 years of education (HSSC, FA, FSc, ICom, ICS or equivalent) and a passing LAT score. Beyond that, each university sets its own minimum percentage, merit formula and sometimes an additional test. The LLB eligibility criteria page collects the requirements. For application windows, see LLB admissions.

Comparing Fees and Planning Your Year

Compare total programme cost, not only the first-semester fee. Ask whether the figure covers all five years, and whether evening or self-finance seats cost more. Check LLB fee structure and LLB date sheets once you have a shortlist.
